Baby led weaning veggie dippers

If you have started on the weaning journey or looking for some more recipe ideas then these baby led weaning veggie dippers are great finger food.

What is Baby Led Weaning (BLW)?

Baby led weaning (BLW) is offering your baby finger foods and letting them self feed (1). This is an alternative method to moving through the weaning stages of different textures.

What are the benefits of Baby Led Weaning (BLW)?

  • They get used to different textures through touch and playing with food.
  • They can learn to recognise foods by sight and to associate them with their taste and smell (2).
  • It’s easier for parents to prepare foods to similar to the family
  • Develop their self-feeding skills (2)

What age are they suitable for?

You can offer soft or cooked vegetables from the start of weaning. Firmer ones can be offered from 9 months.

How do I cook and store baby led weaning veggie dippers?

They are quick and very easy to prepare and could be made alongside the family meal when preparing the same vegetables for dinner. They also make a great snack and can be stored in the fridge for a few days.

Are there any other substitutes for the coating if my baby has an allergy?

The coating of these veggie dippers contains breadcrumbs and egg. So if you have a gluten allergy or sensitivity you could use gluten free breadcrumbs or polenta instead. For an alternative to the egg you could use milk. Cheese and seeds are optional ingredients so can be removed if they have an allergy to them.

What about baby friendly dipping sauces?

These veggie dippers are great served with a dip or sauce. You could try a homemade tomato sauce or some plain yogurt.
