Parsnip puree baby food is a great first food to introduce when starting solids. It is naturally sweet so will usually go down well with your baby. It is also high in fibre, vitamin C and folate. It makes a great puree but you can also use it as a dip for finger foods if doing baby led weaning.

How to make parsnip puree

a bunch of parsnips with leave laying on a plate

It is a very simple recipe to make with just two ingredients (parsnips and water).

  1. Simply peel and dice your parsnips (1 large or 2 small parsnips).
  2. Add 2 -3 tablespoons of water into a saucepan with the parsnips and cook over a medium heat for about 10 minutes (until soft).
  3. Remove from the heat and blend with a hand blender or processor until smooth.
  4. Portion up and leave to cool.

Is parsnip good for baby constipation?

Yes- they can be good for constipation as they are high in fibre and will help with digestion and constipation. If you are worried about your child being constipated then check out my blog: Is my toddler constipated and what are the best foods to help relieve them?

Recipe FAQ

Can I freeze it?

Yes- parsnip puree freezes very well. It will store in the freezer for up to 3 months. I suggest having it portioned out ready in an ice cube tray or other portion sizes so that you can just defrost the amounts you need.

What goes with parsnip puree?

Lots of other flavours go with parsnip and you could really put it with anything. Other vegetable purees that work well with parsnip include carrot, pear and potato.

How do I serve it for different ages?

6-7 months – Smooth puree

7-8 months – Thicker puree with increased texture

8-9 months – Cooked, mashed with soft lumps

9-12 months – Cooked, soft and finely chopped
